13th wow!

"I can't get the image out of my head!", Arjun lamented, tears trickling from his eyes.

Varun, alerted by two other hostel guys, had broke open the door of Arjun's room with his shoulders and saved or rather prevented Arjun from committing suicide. He had darted across the room, caught hold of Arjun's legs who was on the verge of hanging himself from the ceiling fan and had given him the much needed reality tight slap.

"What the hell do you think are doing? HUH!? Who gave you the right to kill yourself?!!", Varun shouted with rage at Arjun. He was slightly taken aback by the sudden change in Varun's demeanour. Varun was Arjun's best friend.

"But Divya . . ", Arjun started.

Again, a slap.

"You two can leave now. Thank you for alerting me. I can handle it from here," Varun said motioning the other guys to leave.

After they had left he continued, "Stop saying her name again, okay! So you saw her smooching some douche on the beach! So, what? That gives you the right to kill yourself huh! Thinking no Divya no reason to live! Yeah, you will only end up proving yourself that you are a loser for real. After death, you will watch Divya living her life happily. Do you even realise the repercussions that you would have brought had you been dead! Did you think of your parents?"

Varun paused as if letting the silence to reignite his friend's temporarily dysfunctional brain.

He continued, now in his silky voice, "It's just a damn relationship, Arjuna! How can you even evaluate it to your life? Think real hard. I know it hurts. But it's not the end of the world. You are just 19 for God's sake! And already you think you know everything!".

Another pause.

"And besides. . .What would I do without you!!", Varun trembled.

This short fiction comes after a two month hiatus.

  1. friendship always lifts us up when everything else lets us down... nice write-up. :)

  2. Great post! So much truth about suicide in this one short post. Someone on the brink of suicide is only thinking of themselves and the pain they are in at that moment. And all too often, all that's needed to prevent it is the time of one person to speak, to listen, to understand and let them know they are important and they matter.

  3. think twice before taking any drastic step in relationship end is not the end of life....move on.
