Flash News!

My 12th one! :)

MAY 17

Mithun woke up after a long sleep of 10 hours. He had returned late from work around 10 PM the previous night and dozed off instantly. He went to the living room still feeling sleepy and sat on the black leather sofa. A fresh copy of the daily paper lay on the glass topped teak table before him. Laxmi would have already got up, Mithun thought.

'Laxmi, a cup of tea, please', he gave a call.

Almost immediately a voice from the kitchen responded, 'Coming right away, dear'

Only when Mithun looked at the copy of the paper he remembered that the results for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections had already been declared the previous day. But he was so engrossed in his work along with everyone that he didn't even have time for casual chats. Yesterday had indeed been a tiring day. The first page, as expected, contained an advertisement of the latest Samsung Galaxy S5.

'Really! . . .', Mithun thought to himself.

He opened the paper to reveal the third page. But what he saw, startled him.

Stretched across half the paper was the picture of actress Rainy Leone, in a thin, black velvet dress, beaming wide and holding a golden statuette. The headline read: Rainy wins award! ..... Below the pciture: 'Model' turned bollywood actress Rainy Leone wins the award for the best debut actress for the horror cum thriller movie Rohini SMS 2 at the IIFA ceremony held at Tampa Bay, Florida. (more reports on page 5).

Just beside this piece of news, was a picture of cricketer Glenn Maxwell, holding the man of the match award. The headline read: Yet another feather in the cap! ..... Below the picture: Maxwell's 147 off just 78 balls helped Kings XI Punjab secure a win over the Chennai Super Kings's total of 245. (more reports on sports page).

Below that was another advertisement of Amazon e-commerce website.

'Realllyy!!! . . .', Mithun now almost let out a shout in shock.

'What is it?', Laxmi had come outside, holding Mithun's cup of tea.

'Hmm...nothing. Just that I wanted to see who won the elections. But there seems to be no mention of it here on the first page. The results were not declared, uh?', Mithun asked, now totally confused, wondering whether he got the date wrong.

Laxmi gave a short laugh and said, 'Yes, the results were declared. The BJPA has won and Moghul Rodi has been declared as the prime minister of India.'

But Mithun gestured her to look at the paper, indicating that there was no news of it. Laxmi sighed and said, 'Oh you silly!! Turn to the next page.' He did so.

In the fourth page, was the report on the 2014 elections.

Mithun then looked at Laxmi shocked, 'The pages are kept in the reverse order!'
